Two festivals end today and cool pet fundraiser

Outdoor Festival - A weekend of competitions and live music ends today at Tuck Fest. U.S. National Whitewater Rafting Center,  5000 Whitewater Center Parkway.




Puppy Love - Show your support for our furry friends at the Mutts & Mimosas benefiting the Human Society. In addition to Atherton Market's current vendors, the event will feature other local artisans and mobile boutiques. 1 p.m. Atherton Market,  2140 South Blvd. Tickets.


Film Festival - The 2016 GayCharlotte Film Festival features full-length drama and comedies, documentaries and short films. Various times throughout the weekend. Theatre Charlotte, 501 Queens Rd, 501 Queens Rd.

Prince tribute party tonight, festivals and more today

I was all excited about the Charlotte Jazz Festival late night jam and "Schoolhouse Rocks Live!" Adult Night, but now Su Casa's Prince tribute party is a priority. So many events to choose from. Wherever you go, be sure to party like it's 1999! See you in the streets...

Countdown Party - It’s hard to believe, but AIDSWalk is only two weeks away. Jazz Lovers - This is your weekend with dozens of live jazz events throughout the week ranging from lunch to late night jam sessions. Highlights include tonight’s Charlotte Jazz Festival First Night featuring Sammy Miller and the Congregation with special guest Wynton Marsalis, Friday’s Jazz in the Key of Life featuring Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Orchestra on Friday and a Creole Jazz Brunch on Saturday. I’m Just A Bill - My brother and I always started Saturday mornings with cartoons and “School House Rocks!” I can’t wait, wait, wait for tonight’s "Schoolhouse Rocks Live!" Adult Night No kids allowed for this show. We adults get to join the mosh pit and rock to this childhood favorite. Pre-show reception at 6:30 p.m. with food, beer and wine from Mac’s Speedshop. 7:30 p.m., Children's Theatre of Charlotte, 300 E. 7th Street. $12 and up.


BBQ Competition - The 3rd annual Smoke Off BBQ Competition features 20 amateur teams making yummy food. Gone To The Dogs - Help the Humane Society and get some exercise for you and your furry friend at Pet Palooza Festival and Walk for the Animals. It’s 2K fundraising dog walk and includes a full day of family-oriented,  dog-friendly festivities.  Hosted by WBTV News Anchor Kristen Miranda and WBTV Meteorologist Lyndsay Tapases. The annual event draws over 4,000 people and their dogs each year. More than 100 vendors and sponsors offer pet-related products and services. Two film festivals, a beer festival finale and more today

New Black Movie Event - The Classic Black Cinema Series launches Black Cinema Forward today. It’s a new quarterly film series highlighting current black filmmakers. Craft Week Finale Charlotte Craft Beer Week ends with a collaboration with Elevate Lifestyle to present the South End Spring Fling. Benefits Project Halo. Last One - The Jazz Arts Initiative concludes its sixth season with a tribute to North Carolina native Nina Simone. The Saturday show features trumpeter Mark Rapp playing the music of Miles Davis. 6 p.m. and 8:15 p.m., Stage Door Theater, corner of 5th and College in Uptown Charlotte. $12, $15. Details.

Film festival, paint event and cool hip-hop show

This weekend is what I call the calm after the storm. After all of the Halloween partying, this is the weekend to slow down and chill at a few low key events. See you in the streets.

Wednesday

Canvas & Beats - You’ve seen all of the different painting events. Paint Craze blends live art and music. Each week the paint-your-own-party features a different live band. 7 p.m. - 10  p.m. Dirty Hippie, 5028 South Boulevard in the tan building next to Pep Boys. $10 cover includes canvas and paint.



Jazzy Happy Hour - Trombonist Buff Dillard headlines the weekly after-work mixer. 7 p.m. 10 p.m., Sydney’s Martini Bar, 401 N. Tryon St. Free.


Thursday
Independent Play - An unexpected pregnancy ends a fighter pilot’s flying career, but piloting drones provides new opportunities and pitfalls in Grounded, a one-woman play. Tonight through Saturday, and Nov. 12-14. 7:30 p.m., Studio 1212, 1212 E. 10th St. $20. Tickets.

Buy Art - The Light Factory hosts its auction this month, but you can get a sneak peek at the Auction Preview Party. Light hors d’oeuvres and a casual discussion about featured auction artwork. 6:30 p.m., The Light Factory, 1817 Central Ave.



Film Festival - The 100 Words Film Festival expands to an entire weekend of film premieres, parties, and a panel discussion. The festival features 35 films from award-winning professionals and student filmmakers will make their world premieres. $10 per show, $24 for all three events.  Screenings are Nov. 6 and 7 at 8:00 p.m. at the McGlohon Theater, 345 N College St.  After-parties immediately following at the 7th Street Market (tonight) and Rooftop 210 (Saturday).  Details.

Fashion Show Benefit - Fashion Street is an outdoor fashion show features 22 local models, seven boutiques and celebrity models. Guest are encouraged to bring canned good to benefit the Harvest Center. The event is free. Boutique owner LeMond Hart is hosting this event. 6 p.m. at East 15th Street between Caldwell Street and Davidson Street.


Hit The Streets - Sustain Charlotte is promoting healthy lifestyle with the Walk Your Neighborhood kick off event in Plaza-Midwood. Participants are encouraged to walk from their residence to the Pizza Peel on Central Avenue. There will be a table for residents to check-in, log their miles, and receive a wristband, which qualifies for discounts at area restaurants and shops. 2 p.m. - 5 p.m., The Pizza Peel & Tap Room, 1600 Central Ave. Details. #WalkCLT

Chili cook-off, film festival and Latin-American Festival

I think I'll call today Family Fun Day. So much to do for the family, and a few things for adults too. Go outside and enjoy the day. See you in the streets....

Family Fun - After three weekends of rain, hot chili sounds sooo good. The 6th Annual Dilworth/South End Chili Cook-Off is a family-friendly event with fire trucks, mascots and chili. Samples from local restaurants and cooking teams. Proceeds benefit Camp Kudos, Avon Walk for Breast Cancer and Alzheimer's Association. Pumpkin painting for the kids by Wine & Design, a cornhole tournament, local bands, a huge raffle, a bake sale to benefit MS. Celebrity judges will be Sir Purr and Chubby Checker. 11 a.m. Atherton Mills, 2100 South Boulevard. $10, free for kids. DetailsTJ's Yaasssss!


10th Annual Film Festival - Friends Antonio Diaz, Keith Whatley and Ryan Walker created the 15 Short Film Festival in 2005 to showcase short films. This year’s festival will feature 20 short films from 15 countries with multiple award winning shorts from the Tribeca, Sundance, Cannes, South By Southwest, and Slam Dance Film Festivals. More than 1500 films were submitted by filmmakers from around the world. 7 p.m. The Evening Muse, 3227 N Davidson St. Details. TJ's Yaasssss!

Family Fun - The Latin American Festival celebrates 25 years. The festival features vendors selling handmade crafts, Latino visual artists, traditional dance performances and musical acts. Headliners include: Mexican ska band Panteon Rococo, legendary salsero Ismael Miranda, and multi-Grammy award winning Colombian rock group Aterciopelados returns. 11 a.m. - 8 p.m., Symphony Park, 4400 Sharon Rd. 1 day pass $10, 2 day pass $15, Children 10 & under are free. DetailsTJ's Yaasssss!




Medieval Fun! - The Carolina Renaissance Festival returns for weeks of jousting, belly dancing and more. The festival features more than 500 costumed characters, 12 stages of music, comedy and circus entertainment, and more. There are more than 100 vendors in the Village Artisan Marketplace.
