Gay pride pageant, brunch and Halloween prep

It's never too early to get ready for Halloween. It's a low-key day, but the fun doesn't end.

Charlotte Pride Event - Gay Pride is here! Charlotte Pride Week continues with Miss & Mr. Charlotte Pride Pageant following the theme of show girls. Come out to see who will be this year’s Mr. Miss Pride Pageant. Two pageants, one night. 7 p.m. The Scorpio, 2301 Freedom Dr. Details.

Get Dressed Up - Think you have what it takes to scare the crap out of people? Take your talents to Carowinds for Scarowinds Haunt auditions. Must be age 16 and up. A day party, a benefit and this week's preview

Fallen Neighbor - The NoDa community is rallying around Joe Borruso, who was struck by a drunk driver while walking along Parkwood Avenue on Sunday. Borruso was seriously injured in the accident. The Benefit Show for Joe Borruso features an acoustic set by Taking Back Sunday, Animals, Paint Fumes, Modern Primitives, Fat Geoff & more. 6 p.m. Neighborhood Theatre. $20 - $30. Details.

Thanks Thunder Road - Carowinds prepares to retire the wooden roller coaster, Thunder Road with a two-week celebration. Starting Monday, until July 26, the first 100 riders will receive a FREE commemorative Thunder Road button and the first 48 riders (first two trains of the day) will also get a FREE celebratory poster of the wooden coaster. Carowinds.

Beer festival, movie night and music festival tonight

Rest up from last night, but don't sleep too late. The fun starts today with shopping and festivals. See you in the streets...

For The Family - Tired of zipping around on roller coasters or flopping around in the water park, try Carowinds’ new concept Dine-In Movies. The park launches this weekly Saturday evening tonight with “Despicable Me.”  Dine-In Movies will feature a different movie every Saturday evening through August 15.  Starts at 8:30 p.m. inside of Harmony Hall, the foot market, Carowinds.



Music Festival - The SummerSplash Festival pays tribute to Bradley Nowell of Sublime. The event features nearly a dozen bands. 4 p.m. The Chop Shop, 399 East 35th St. $20. Details.



Shopping Party - Join local food trucks and boutiques at #shoplocal. It’s a celebration of local businesses. 12 p.m. - 4 p.m. Fresh Boutique, 813 Providence Rd. See who's coming.

Beer Festival - Officially, it's called The Fillmore Craft Sessions, but that's just a fancy way to say beer festival. The event features more than two dozen local and national craft beers, food vendors and more. 5 p.m. Fillmore Charlotte, 1000 North Carolina Music Factory Boulevard. $42 and up.



Fashion and Hair Show - The Alesia Thomas Foundation, Inc. hosts the Tresses & Threads Hair and Fashion Show. The theme for this year's show is "A Ribbon of Many Colors.” The event will raise money for people with illnesses and conditions that cause hair loss such as Alopecia, Lyme Disease, along with other illnesses including treatments for Cancer. The host for the evening will be Davita Galloway, owner of Dupp & Swat Creative Agency & Boutique. 6 p.m. - 9 p.m., Sachi Enterprise 1801 N. Tyron St.


Charlotte Black Gay Pride - Get a head start on celebrating Charlotte Black Gay Pride at the Black Tie Gala and Award presented by CBGP. The organizations celebrates the 10th anniversary of Charlotte Black Gay Pride. The gala features a   Black Carpet and will honor community members who have helped build CBG Pride. Includes dinner and entertainment. 8 p.m. - 10 pm. The Venue, 1801 N Tryon St. Details.
