All You Can Eat - Midwood Smokehouse hosts a rib-eating challenge benefitting Claire’s Army, a local nonprofit supporting families fighting childhood cancer. Contestants will have thirty minutes to finish a full rack of baby back ribs, 7oz. portions of collard greens, baked beans, potato salad along with Texas toast and a slice of watermelon. The winner will receive a $1,000 gift card to Midwood Smokehouse and a grill set and apron from Hormel. 3 p.m. Midwood Smokehouse, 1401 Central Ave Ste 101. Entry form.
Plaza-Midwood Tradition - The 15th Annual Plaza Midwood Pig Pickin' will feature bands on three outdoor stages at The Diamond, Sherwin Williams paint store, and Snug Harbor. Various food vendors at each stage. 4-10 p.m. Full lineup.
July 4th Parade - It’s a July 4 tradition in East Charlotte. Politicians and a variety of organizations celebrate the 4th of July in the Hickory Grove Parade. The parade winds along Harris Boulevard starting around the intersection of Hickory Grove. Ends with a block party at Hickory Grove Recreation Center, 6709 Pence Rd, with live music, games, food, and contests.
Jazz Festival - Spend the 4th of July under the stars at the Charlotte Jazz & Wine Festival. Rt 29 Pavilion, 5650 Sandusky Blvd. $25.
Day Party - Head over to the N.C. Music Factory for DayJaVu: 4th of July Day Party. Complimentary cookout while the food lasts. 4 p.m. Label Nightclub.
Fireworks - Bring the family to watch Team USA v. Cuba and then enjoy a fireworks show at the WBT Skyshow. 2 p.m. BB&T Ballpark: 324 South Mint Street.
