Chili cook-off, film festival and Latin-American Festival

I think I'll call today Family Fun Day. So much to do for the family, and a few things for adults too. Go outside and enjoy the day. See you in the streets....

Family Fun - After three weekends of rain, hot chili sounds sooo good. The 6th Annual Dilworth/South End Chili Cook-Off is a family-friendly event with fire trucks, mascots and chili. Samples from local restaurants and cooking teams. Proceeds benefit Camp Kudos, Avon Walk for Breast Cancer and Alzheimer's Association. Pumpkin painting for the kids by Wine & Design, a cornhole tournament, local bands, a huge raffle, a bake sale to benefit MS. Celebrity judges will be Sir Purr and Chubby Checker. 11 a.m. Atherton Mills, 2100 South Boulevard. $10, free for kids. DetailsTJ's Yaasssss!


10th Annual Film Festival - Friends Antonio Diaz, Keith Whatley and Ryan Walker created the 15 Short Film Festival in 2005 to showcase short films. This year’s festival will feature 20 short films from 15 countries with multiple award winning shorts from the Tribeca, Sundance, Cannes, South By Southwest, and Slam Dance Film Festivals. More than 1500 films were submitted by filmmakers from around the world. 7 p.m. The Evening Muse, 3227 N Davidson St. Details. TJ's Yaasssss!

Family Fun - The Latin American Festival celebrates 25 years. The festival features vendors selling handmade crafts, Latino visual artists, traditional dance performances and musical acts. Headliners include: Mexican ska band Panteon Rococo, legendary salsero Ismael Miranda, and multi-Grammy award winning Colombian rock group Aterciopelados returns. 11 a.m. - 8 p.m., Symphony Park, 4400 Sharon Rd. 1 day pass $10, 2 day pass $15, Children 10 & under are free. DetailsTJ's Yaasssss!




Medieval Fun! - The Carolina Renaissance Festival returns for weeks of jousting, belly dancing and more. The festival features more than 500 costumed characters, 12 stages of music, comedy and circus entertainment, and more. There are more than 100 vendors in the Village Artisan Marketplace. OktoberFest - Bar games just got a touch of fall with a Stein holding contest to go with the usual bar games at OktoberFest. Beers include Spaten, Spaten Octoberfest and Fraiziskaner. 1 p.m. Rusty Rudder, 20210 Henderson Rd #101, Cornelius.


Celebrity Appearance Super Fresh Sundays will be hosted by rapper Yo Gotti. Music by Ciroc Boy DJ SNS and DJ Ngenius and co-hosted by Mugsy and Neezy. 10 p.m. The All New White House Club (formerly Tempo), 4809 Wilkinson Blvd. Details.
