Line dancing and healthy living at wellness gala

Two of my passions are hanging out and working out. My love for working is one of the reasons, you'll often read about 5-K races and crossfit competitions as things to do.

Last night, I had a chance to celebrate my passion for working out and hanging out at the 3rd annual Village HeartBeat Hearts of Champions Gala. The event celebrated a health initiative that pitted area churches against each other in a battle to be the fittest church in Charlotte. As a result of the 10 month wellness program, the members of the participating churches lost a combined 304 lbs at an average of about four and half pounds per person. More than a dozen people quit smoking, blood pressure improved and body fat shrunk.

The gala ended with exercise - line dancing. Read my original Observer story about the program.
